目前多數研究探討高血脂與阿茲海默罹病率的相關性，本篇文章主要以正子斷層掃描技術方式，直接偵測人體血清膽固醇指數與腦中β-amyloid (Aβ)沈澱的關係。
結果顯示在正子斷層掃描技術下，LDL-C數值與腦中β-amyloid沈澱成正相關，HDL-C數值與腦中β-amyloid沈澱成負相關相關。利用這個結果可作為未來預防阿茲海默症的參考。
